Fluence acquires Superior Microgrid Options’ bidding software program for utility-scale storage and renewables

Fluence acquires Advanced Microgrid Solutions’ bidding software for utility-scale storage and renewables

Fluence, a Siemens and AES company, announced that it has acquired the digital intelligence platform from AMS, a provider of AI-enabled optimized bid software for utility-scale storage and generation resources. The combination of the two companies’ technologies will help utilities, developers, and commercial and industrial customers optimize energy storage and flexible assets to generate additional revenue, improve grid reliability and efficiency, and support the global transition to more sustainable and resilient power systems.

AMS technology uses artificial intelligence, advanced price forecasting, portfolio optimization and market bids to ensure that energy storage and flexible generation systems respond optimally to price signals sent by the market. AMS and Fluence technologies will work together as a force multiplier, maximizing the value of assets by combining Fluence’s extensive experience in operating batteries on-site with AMS’s ability to optimize market participation.

The acquisition, which is based on a one-year partnership between the two companies, complements and expands Fluence’s digital intelligence capabilities, such as go-to-market algorithms, battery degradation modeling and anomaly detection. By joining the Fluence team, AMS will leverage Fluence’s global sales reach to bring its software to more customers around the world.

“Our centuries-old power grid is stressed. Renewable energies and energy storage are the solution, ”said Brett Galura, Chief Technology Officer at Fluence. “AMS has developed one of the most powerful AI-enabled software engines in the industry. This acquisition provides customers with data-driven insights that maximize the value and performance of generation and storage facilities to make the entire grid smarter. These innovations will drive the transformation of global power systems to ensure a more sustainable future. “

The acquisition enables Fluence to add value to energy storage and renewables to customers. The combination of the sixth generation Fluence Tech stack, which can reduce system costs for energy storage by up to 25%, with AI-enabled software, which increases income from energy storage of batteries by more than 100% can maximize the ROI of energy storage. AMS software has also increased sales of stand-alone renewable systems by over 10% through optimized offerings for the wholesale market.

Fluence takes a technology-independent “app store” approach to integrating the world’s best digital applications – both its own and third-party vendors – to optimize energy storage and flexible generation resources. This philosophy extends to the optimized bid software from AMS, which will be available as a stand-alone application for owners of energy storage, hybrid and stand-alone generation systems. Asset owners can use the software to optimize their systems whether or not they are using Fluence technology.

“We are very excited to be joining the Fluence team. Customers are building larger fleets of energy storage and flexible generation assets while the wholesale markets become more complex and volatile, ”said Seyed Madaeni, CEO of AMS. “We have a unique opportunity to drive the clean energy revolution by using AI to optimize the shipping of flexible assets, maximize their value, and make the entire power grid more responsive, reliable and resilient. As part of the Fluence team, we will have the skills and resources to accelerate the global expansion of our software. “
