"The fire could have been caused by a solar power battery and inverter inside the building. But investigations will continue to confirm this or otherwise."

“The fire could have been caused by a solar battery and an inverter in the building. Investigations will continue to confirm this, however.”

Officials from the Royal Solomon Island Police Force (RSIPF) at Henderson Police Station investigate the burn down of the Aola Police Post in East Guadalcanal on October 17, 2020.

Alfred Uiga, Chief Superintendent of Provincial Police Commander (PPC) in Guadalcanal Province, said: “According to an initial report from a team of officers from Henderson and Tetere Police Stations who traveled to Aola to investigate the incident, the fire could be from solar energy Battery and inverter in the building. Research will continue to confirm this or others.

“Unfortunately the building was burned down and all police records were destroyed, but luckily no one was injured in the fire.

“The policeman who was on duty at the police station at the time of the fire locked the building and was looking for a complainant to record his case when his wife and children sounded the alarm near the station.

“Unfortunately, the officer and some of the villagers were unable to save the building or anything in it. However, they were able to prevent the fire from spreading to a nearby police station,” explains PPC Uiga.

He added, “The investigation into the incident is ongoing to determine the real cause of the fire.”

“I appeal to all members of the public who may be near the Aola police station at the time of the incident to provide information in support of the investigation,” says PPC Uiga.
