AES completes 5.2-MWp solar plant in El Salvador

November 30th (Renewables Now) – AES El Salvador and its AES Soluciones unit inaugurated a 5.2 MWp solar photovoltaic system in El Salvador on Friday.

The local unit of AES Corporation (NYSE: AES) invested USD 5 million (EUR 4.2 million) in the Opico Power PV park. With 12,834 solar modules and 24 inverters, the solar system should generate enough electricity to cover the annual needs of 11,000 local households.

On an area of 50,000 square meters, Opico Power AES should be able to help offset 2,371 tons of carbon dioxide emissions (CO2) per year. The solar park is also helping AES achieve its goal of reducing CO2 emissions in all operations by 50% by 2022 and by 70% by 2030, the company emphasizes in the press release.

To achieve its goal, AES El Salvador has made several investments in the country’s clean energy market. In October 2019, the 100 MW plant in Bosforo was switched on together with the Central American company Corporacion Multi Inversiones (CMI), according to AES.
