Ladakh gets largest solar project at Leh Indian Air Force station, Energy News, ET EnergyWorld

LEH: The Union Territory of Ladakh has set up the largest solar energy project as part of the center’s “Make In India” initiative at the IAF Leh station to provide a sustainable energy alternative to fossil fuels and traditional methods of energy generation.

The project “Providing a solar photovoltaic power plant with a capacity of 1.5 MW” was completed within 12 months well before the completion date on March 31, 2021, said a defense spokesman.

“The largest high-altitude solar project in all of Leh in the Ladakh Union Territory was set up at the IAF Leh station,” he said.

The spokesman said the project was designed and carried out under Make In India to provide a sustainable energy alternative to fossil fuels and traditional methods.

It is the largest solar project installed to date, with a target set by the Union’s Ministry of New and Renewable Energies of 300 MW in three phases for defense sectors and 14 MW for the Leh region.

The 122 rupee project was recently opened by Air Marshal VR Chaudhari, Commander in Chief of Western Air Command, he added.
