North America electricity procurement contracts activity up 7% in July 2021

In July 2021, 29 electricity purchase contracts were announced in the North America region, up 7% from the 12-month average of 27, according to GlobalData’s electricity contract database.

In July 2021, electricity purchasing took first place in comparison to other electricity tendering categories in the North America region with 29 contracts and a share of 41.4%, followed by power plants with 15 contracts and a share of 21.4% and generating plants with 14 contracts and a 20% share during the month.

The percentage of contracts recorded by category by GlobalData per month was as follows:

  1. Power purchase contract: 28 contracts and a share of 96.6%
  2. Electricity supply: a contract and a share of 3.4%.

Solar is cutting edge technology for power purchase contracts in North America in July 2021

Looking at the power purchase contracts by type of technology in the North America region, Solar made up 21 contracts with a share of 67.7%, followed by wind with nine contracts and a share of 29% and nuclear energy with one contract and a share of 3.2% %.

North America Power Purchase Agreements in July 2021: Top Companies by Capacity

The top North America Power Purchase Contract Issuers for the month in terms of power capacity were:

  1. Central Coast Community Energy: 488.3 MW from six contracts
  2. Amazon.com (USA): 474 MW from a contract
  3. Microsoft (USA): 434 MW capacity from two contracts.

North America Power Purchase Agreements in July 2021: Top Winners by Capacity

The top North American power capacity contracts of the month winners were:

  1. TotalEnergies (France): 546MW from two contracts
  2. Apex Clean Energy Holdings (USA): 345 MW from a contract
  3. 174 Power Global (USA): 272 MW capacity from three contracts.
